Chairman's Message

Andrew Sama, MD

We are pleased you have chosen to visit us and invite you to explore our site. Please share in our enthusiasm for the art of emergency medicine and advancing the future of our exciting specialty.

Since 1983, we were the first voluntary hospital in New York City to establish a training program in Emergency Medicine and our graduates practice throughout the country. With a complementary experience at Jacobi Medical Center, part of the New York City municipal hospital system, and Nassau University Medical Center, part of the Nassau County municipal hospital system, we offer an excellent broad-based learning environment encompassing both the public and private sectors.

The three sites combine for over 250,000 patient visits per year and employ more than 50 full time faculty dedicated to researching and teaching emergency medicine.  This diverse faculty and patient population provide the milieu for an unparalleled training experience.

We invite you to come visit us. Whether or not you become part of the LIJ family, we hope to be a part of your educational journey. LIJ is dedicated to improving patient care through better education.
